Ever since I read that demeaning and lecturing article posted a few weeks ago on the web site womanist musings, stating that white people who choose to be Buddhist are racist and imperialist, and that her conclusions were drawn from the social theory of 'Whiteness' studies, I felt like I needed to find out more about it. So after I started to look a bit deeper into this very new field of academic study, I became outraged when I found that there is certainly no shortage of some very rather disturbing theories and generalizations about white people and people of color, which are being taught in about two dozen Universities around the United States and Canada. I wanted to make a ranting post, to expose these people and their ideas for what they are. I felt angered that not only was I being told that whites really shouldn't be Buddhist until they go through some formal indoctrination of cultural studies, but how the convert Buddhist community contains a large portion of people who not only applaud this degrading horse crap, but accept it as fact. However, after some time mulling over what total non-sense that this 'Whiteness' business is all about, and it is a business for sure (with books tours, speaking engagements, tenured jobs and federal and state funding), I just didn't feel like writing a 35 paragraph essay on what is tantamount to a theory that a couple dozen crackpots came up with.
I honestly don't think I've researched such degrading, irresponsible and reprehensible rhetoric since I studied the abhorrent institution of Jim Crow or Apartheid system in South Africa back in high school and college. Of course there is still a lot of racism in the West, but taking such an unsettling and despicable approach as this, is not in any way an acceptable or plausible manner to address theses concerns. So I came to a compromise of sorts, I decided to first list out some facts and observations about 'Whiteness' studies, then take a giant shit on a lot of not-so-real modern day crap that white people should be sorry for. (Don't worry, I have several links and references at the bottom to all this information, least you think I am making this up - sadly I am not)
The theory and study of 'Whiteness'
- Whiteness theory states that the white race does not really exist, it is merely an illusory social construct
- Whiteness studies is the academic discipline that looks at the pseudo-taxonomy of people who call themselves white
- Whiteness is studied in a critical and negative light, which claims racial superiority is a fabricated construct meant to justify discrimination against non-whites
- The key ingredient of Whiteness is a thing that they call white privilege, and more importantly the denial of its existence
- They state that Whiteness is invisible, subtle and elusive, and is almost always unknown to the benefactor of 'Whiteness'
- There are over 30 Universities in the United States that offer courses in ‘Critical Whiteness Studies’
- Unlike African-American, Hispanic or Asian studies, Whiteness studies is taught in a strictly negative and disapproving manner
- Many far right wing political groups have seized upon this recent development as a legitimate excuse to celebrate white pride and have pushed for right wing type white studies in Universities
- The vast majority of these professors are white, and many of them belong to a group that call themselves 'The Race Traitors'
- The motto of the Race Traitors is "treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity."
- The key to solving the social problems of our age, they argue, is to abolish the white race. They argue that this is not a violent abolishment, (though they don't discount the possible need for future violence) but an abolishment and destruction of the white race, and only the white race, as a viable social category
- They refer to white people who have not acknowledged their invisible Whiteness as “wretched members of society"
- They call themselves intellectuals who have overcome their ‘Whiteness’, and look upon guilt and shame as a positive tools towards the destruction of the white race, and insist that with enough ‘defectors’ this system will eventually collapse
- Many of their writings are rather condescending, often stating things such as “You may be confused” and “Those for whom the distinction is too subtle” when referring to the vast majority of whites, and often attack their detractors as anti-intellectuals who have not acknowledged their ‘Whiteness’
- One of their most vitriol statements is: “We hold that so-called whites must cease to exist as whites in order to realize themselves as something else; to put it another way: white people must commit suicide as whites in order to come alive as workers, or youth, or women, or whatever other identity can induce them to change from the miserable, petulant, subordinated creatures they now are into freely associated, fully developed human subjects.”
- These professors state that they have a clear picture on to how best redefine and rebuild whites and so-called white culture after its eventual destruction.
While there are many things we obviously need to make amends for, I put together a list of some of the lesser known things that us white people have so ungracious heaved upon the world.

- Most of all, we are sorry for these low life hipster elitist professors, who not only think they are better then everyone else, they think they know what is best for all people of color. Ironically, I think that's the most offensive thing about all this.

Maybe it's time we started defunding these kinds of studies, and have these professors lose their tenure and be terminated for spreading such divisive and hate laden bullshit?
